Pollinators' Pick: Calamintha Nepeta

Updated: Aug 1

This is one of my favorite perennials of all time and that is really saying a lot because I LOVE plants.

Calamintha Nepata - perennial

Calamintha Nepeta - a favorite perennial

  • This sun-loving perennial will keep flowering profusely from mid-June through a hard frost.

  • Buzzing Bees - Calamintha is very attractive to both native pollinators and honey bees which is why it deserves the first spot on Pollinators' Pick List.

  • Sunny disposition - I've grown it in both morning sun and full sun. Definitely has a better plant form (shape) grown in 6 plus hours of sun but it doesn't seem to affect the blooming power.

  • Great Shape - It also keeps a tidy shape all season and does not need trimmed to keep blooming.

  • Tough customer - Calamintha seems to be very drought tolerant once established - which we love. We have enough thirsty plants at Busy Bee.

  • Only White - And before you can even ask... they only come in white, although I'd expect to see some new introductions in the next few years as this plant is really gaining popularity! ~Chelsey, aka Queen Bee
