This flower with a rather odd name is commonly known as the Fan Flower.
Can you guess why it’s called Fan Flower?
If you look closely at the blooms before they’ve opened, you’ll see that they roll out as they open. Pretty unique!
Scaevola Loves a Hot Pot
They come in a variety of colors but mostly shades of blue (purple), pink and white. This is a Midwest crowd pleaser because it loves the heat! It is a great choice for what I call a hot pot (a pot that bakes in the afternoon heat).
The Bees Knees
My favorite part of this plant is the fact that bees love to work on this plant, especially later in the season.
If you haven’t noticed yet, Busy Bee is all about those pollinators!
Sweet Scent
You may not ever end up with your head in a hanging basket filled with Scaevola, but each day while watering I’ve grown fond of the light, delicately sweet scent it puts off. Just another bonus this annual brings to your garden.
A Thirsty One
Can I say anything bad about this plant?
There are pros and cons to every plant but this list is long for why you should plant it.
The only complaint is, if I had to choose, it is a little on the thirsty side of things once it has reached its big and beautiful stage late in the season.
You should bee a “fan” of this plant if you’re not already!
We featured Scaevola on the Wednesday WTF (What The Flower) post on Facebook on September 12.
